Seat cushion donation

Look at our great seat cushions!
Thanks to everyone and all companies who helped to make this happen!

We LOVE them!

dismissal change

Grades 3 and 4 will exit the South doors aka the playground doors.  Parents who wait for their children are to be standing by the Gathering Space steps and behind the cast iron fence.  We are hoping to clear that area of the congestion that happens daily.

Thanks for working with us to fix this problem!

pairs of socks and underwear needed

So sorry that I forgot to send out an earlier email:

We are collecting new socks and/or underwear for Mass donation tomorrow.

I think it was in Mrs. Swartz's email at the beginning of the week.

(Yes, the rumor from your child is true.  I AM giving a "Feltman Fun" buck for every pair that is brought in!)  ....

Sorry again for the late notice!  Hopefully your child told you sooner.  (I was at music lessons with my children earlier tonight!)

School House Rock Visit

Bob Dorough visited IHM today,
He sang many favorite classics from School House Rock.

We were on the edge of our seats.
Thanks to IHM, PTO and anyone who helped to bring Mr. Dorough to IHM.
It was a fantastic program!

IHM also celebrated "White Out" shirts in honor of Pope Francis' visit to the USA!
What a great day!

Wow! AR points

Our class has 7 students who have
met their AR reading point goal already!

How are you doing on this goal?

If you are one of the 7,
That's fantastic!!!

Your total will continue to grow
for the "year total points"!!!

What's The Rule?

What's the Rule?

I made a magically machine today.
When you put a number into the box,
something happens
& a new number comes out!

We can go forward and backward with it!

If you know the number that comes out but not the numberr that went "in"...
Then you do the opposite of the rule.

100 goes "in"  (-50 rule box)  then a 50 comes "out"
100-50 = 50

?  goes "in"  (-50 rule box)  then a 20 comes "out"
 ? -50 = 20
do the opposite:
20 + 50 = 70
70 -50 = 20

So cool!!!

Some students made their own "Rule Box" to bring home!

Jupiter grades

Math Chapter 1 Asssessment Open Response:
This was extra credit of one point (out of zero)
The students were NOT told it was extra credit.
I told them it was very hard.  Try your best.
If you can't figure it out... just put a "?", after several minutes without an answer.
I decided to give +1 point if the problem was attempted!

Math Home Links page 31-52

Math Home links pages 31-52 are coming home today in your child's Homework folder.

It is NOT required to be completed.  I do NOT want the papers turned back into me.  (I have plenty to grade and to assess with other sources) These papers are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED to be completed. There is a great introduction to the chapter on pages 31-33.  The answers (shhhhh, they don't know this) are on page 34!  Please check answers at home.  These folllow as supplement materials to reinforce what we are teaching at school!

I also suggest that you place these in a 3 ring binder to look back onto later.  These are great resources to reference.

Remember, keep math fun!  It's all fun puzzles just waiting to be solved!

"AR TOPS" reports

Tonight there is a "Tops report" in your Monday folder.
We looked at this and discussed it at school.

Just a couple notes for the parents about this paper.

I have to indivually print this report.  You will only see once a week or near the end of the 9 weeks. (I can't promise every week!)

Note:

  • The date printed on the top.  If I print these on Friday morning.  It does not show any tests taken Friday afternoon or Monday during the day.  Please realize this!
  • Check out the "How I Did" section:  Correct # out of #.  How many questions did you answer correctly out of the total # possible.  It also lists here:  Percent correct for this quiz.  Total points earned for THIS test only.
  • MY PROGRESS  in 2015-2016 section:  Average Percent Correct is your comprehension % for this this 9 weeks.  You goal should be at 85%.  Points earned:  This your TOTAL points earned for this 9 weeks only.  You goal this 9 weeks was 15 points,  This is the number we are tracking in our Data binder at school
  • MY SCHOOL YEAR SUMMARY:  this is the totals for the entire school year. How many tests taken, how many tests passed, average reading level of the books that you have taken and the Total points earned FOR THE YEAR.

Here is a sample for you to look at with some notes written on it:

Scholastic orders are due tomorrow

Don't forget to order from Scholastics tonight or first thing Friday morning.

A new book is always great inspiration!

Maps with scales and compass work

We talked about what to do if our Apple phones, Garmin, Tom Tom or other navigation broke...
How would we know where to go?

We used a scrap piece of paper to measure the distance from one city to another city.
We started on a corner and placed a tiny mark on the paper to show how far the distance away the 2nd city was away.

Then we placed this corner on the 0 on the map scale.
The little line will show us how far the city is away on the scale

A compass rose is very useful too!

Compare two cities, what direction is the 2nd one from the 1st?
Indianapolis to Fort Wayne?
What direction?

We had so much fun!
