Monday updates 1-26-15

1. Review Monday folder papers with your child.
2. Sign the Monday folder
3. Ask to see the "old Assignment Sheet" in their Homework folder.  
4. Sign the "Old Assignment Sheet" (anywhere on it).
5. Talk about the number of assignments that are written down.  There should be 37!  Congratulate your child if they are have close to 37 or more.  This is a new system for them!  It takes a while to get used too!
6. Remember we don't have a Spelling test this week... which leaves plenty of time to work on ixl, lexia, reading for AR tests and/or practicing Math Facts.
7. Look at the report for AR reader tests in the Monday folder.  The point goal should be close to 33% to be able to reach their point goal we discussed together. 
8. Place an order for Scholastic Reader online using Class Activation Code NB4KB  Our class will receive free books.
9. Please return the Volunteer form for our room parents by this Friday.
10. Remember to send your child with a winter coat to school.  We are going outside most days for recess!

Honduras Outreach ~ supplies &/or monetray donations needed

The Mass Outreach for this week and next will benefit the children in Honduras as they head back to school for a new year. There are about 250 children at the orphanage who need new backpacks and school supplies.

We are collecting:

Markers

Colored pencils
Crayons
Glue sticks or bottles
Scissors
Pens and pencils
Rulers
Protractors

No paper please- too heavy to transport

Monetary donations are also fine as the travelers can purchase needed supplies.

Religion activity due on Friday morning 1-23-15

Students have one of 2 options to pick for their activity this week.
We have studied about mysteries in Religion this week.  Edgar Allen Poe's birthday was on Monday 1-19.  Option 1:  Write a short mystery.  It must have a colored picture, a beginning, middle, end and it must have full and complete sentences.
We celebrated the feast of St. Agnes on Jan 21.  She was the patron Saint of Girl Scouts.  Option 2: Tell me how to live like a "good scout".  It must have a colored picture and at least 3 full complete sentences.

Spelling

Spelling test will be on Friday this week!

Science homework due

Please complete vocabulary sheets 253 + 254, they are both due on Wednesday.

What a fantastic day today!

We started with our wonderful "prayer service".  Everyone did a great job.  All speaking parts were spoken "loud and proud".  I was so honored to be their teacher!  We stopped on our way out of the church for a photo opportunity.

We have 3 students in our class with birthdays this coming weekend.  We celebrated 2 of them with snacks today and will celebrate another on Tuesday. 

The day ended with a birthday celebration for Ms. A.  She brought snacks to share with us and we presented our "Birthday Wishes Book" to her.  She was surprised with our door candy sign we made for her. 

 

I hope everyone has a great three day weekend.  Go Colts!

Accelerated Reader Reading Practice Quiz Result email

I sent home a letter to all parents who are NOT signed up to receive an Accelerated Reader Reading Practice Quiz Result email.  (It is in your child's homework folder.)

If you chose to receive an email every time that your child takes an AR test, please sign up online.
It is a wonderful feeling to hear your phone "ding" and see that your child JUST took a test at school.  You can immediately see the time the test was taken, points earned, the comprehension percent, the title and the author.  this is a exciting option to the AR program.  It keeps parents "in the know" without your child even telling you!

Just an extra parenting tool you can use!

Friday 1-16-15 is a big day!

Friday is OUR prayer service and COLTS shirt day.

If your child has a speaking part, make sure they are practicing at home.  Everyone needs to read in a loud & proud voice.

Students may wear a COLTS shirt and uniform pants/jumper.  Please remember NO "hoodies" for church allowed.  Plan wardrobe accordingly. 

Our prayer service will be fantastic!

1.  Review, discuss and sign the "3rd Nine Weeks A.R. Progress Check".  This is such a wonderful program.  Reading every night is so important.  Remind your child to take a test at school to check their comprehension and earn points.  Please sign up to receive emails every time your child takes a test.

2.  "Time for Kids" packet.  It is a wonderful incentive program for our school.  We will receive great benefits if the majority of these forms are turned back into us by Wednesday.

Welcome to 3rd grade in 2015 in Mrs. Feltman's room.
I have a lot of exciting activities planned for this new year.
Please ask your child about the simple machine experiment with sand in a bucket we performed today.

Make sure your child is coming to school with a hat, gloves, a scarf and a coat everyday.
