Dry erase board daily

Here is a picture of what our "Daily Schedule" looks like.
I fill this board out daily.
It is by the door to the classroom.
We check it off as we go through our day.  Leader in Me is a huge advocate of "To Do Lists".

Both sides of the room have a laminated "Daily" schedule.  (You can see this hanging to the right of the dry erase board.

Yesterday I wrote the first time in cursive on the board.  No one seemed to complain.  Our Spelling book has cursive and I will begin to write more and more in cursive.

(The #5  written on top was the answer to our MJ pg 22 today.... it's called a little Hint Hint!)

Here are two examples of the instructions that students see on the Smart Board when they enter the room.  These pictures are frozen on the board for at least 20 minutes in the morning.  Then we start to use the Smart board in Math.  We love our Smart board!  There are so many different ways to use it!

Information

• Don't forget to look in your child's Monday folder tonight.  Please take out all papers and sign the folderI No "drop off's" at the office in the morning.
• Many Reading Logs were just turned in today withOUT a parent signature. (I am just glad that they were turned in and filled out... don't worry about the signature, if you didn't sign it! Happy Labor Day... I hope everyone had a great three day weekend!)
• Remember to encourage your child to read.  Your child is able to take AR tests, first thing in the morning with a laptop.  Please help them to find the quiz number, if there is one.  This will soon be second nature to them but please help in the beginning.  You can download a free scanner app on your phone or IPAD or go to arbookfinder.com The scanner app needs to scan the UPC code NOT the IHM library code.  Not all books have quizzes, but the majority of books at your house will have a quiz!
• Remind your child to turn in papers.  If it isn't in the tray, I can't grade it.
• When papers are assigned, I enter that date (assigned date) into Jupitergrades.If papers are not completed by the end of the day it becomes homework.  It needs to be turned in the next morning when we are unpacking. If it is not turned in the tray the next morning, it will start to loss point value (starting this week).  We should be into a rounting now!
• Spelling packets CAN be turned into the Spelling tray as soon as they are complete.  They are DUE on FRIDAY morning at the beginning of the day!  Students have Monday through Friday to complete it (unless a holiday Monday!)
• Assignment logs and Reading logs will be kept in their goal setting 3 ring binder once we are done with them. (Reading logs get turned in weekly... Assignment Logs are used for two weeks... one week on each side)
• Check my blog often or better yet.... just "subscribe"        jfeltman.blogspot.com   I have great information out there!  If you don't want to check my blog, ask your child to check it out frequently!
• Don't forget to order Scholastic books for your child.  It helps him/her to get excited about reading and it helps our classroom library with FREE books for our class!  (Due on Sept 18 with a code of NB4KB)
• Try to assign lexia or ixl at least once a week for homework.  It's not for a grade but will only benefit your child!
• Don't forget to study Math Facts.  Ask your child about the Math Enrichment games we have been playing in class!  Check my blog for other fun ideas to practice instead of just "drill" sessions!

Working with calculators

Today we worked with calculators.
We started with the basic steps.

Here is what we worked on today. We really had to think while taking it one step into deeper thinking....

Then our Math Journal (MJ) page 15 worked on this concept.

Next we talked about the similarities in the Fact family on the board.
Look at how 35    85   +50  can be worked forward and backwards  with + /- s

Math is so amazing.

Treasure Reading Series tests (orange hard Fox book)

Mondays ~ We will read the introduction story and discuss the Vocabulary

Tuesdays ~ We will read the main story

Wednesday ~ We will finish reading the main story if it is a really long one (we might listen to the                             story on CD

                   ~ Students can take their book home and re-read the story (CAN count towards their                                Reading Log for the night)

Thursday ~ Comprehension test (sometimes will be open book, not every time)

                ~ small group reading books and projects

Friday ~ finish small group projects and present to the class

Assignment Log Codes (to help parents)

We don't have enough time to write out long entries into our Assignment Logs:
It is to help us come up with a "To Do" list, it is not a writing assignment but a shorthand log
Students should know what these mean, but parents will need ask their children. (this confirms what the students say)

/  or X thru the tray box = do not turn in
log in the tray box =  write it on your reading log
Fri in the tray box = due on Fri
Mr. Lo. in the tray box = turn into Mr. Lo.

MW = morning work (usually turn in)
